Digital products
Thanks to digital technologies, content can be compressed for
storage and rapid distribution. In this new digital era, consumers
can access an unlimited range of programs with interactive services.
Thomson multimedia is the world leader in many digital
applications: decoders, DVD players, TV sets equipped with an
electronic program guide, digital cable modems linking computers
capable of providing Internet access at high speed...
The consumer audio market also maintains strong
potential for growth with the development of digital and Internet
technologies. Launched in 1999, the LYRA personal digital player
memorizes and reads downloaded music from the Internet using CD
audio or other digital formats. Thomson expanded its digital audio
lineup with a product launch including discs encoded in the mp3
format.
Thomson multimedia also became an unavoidable leader in the digital
home communications segment by combining its communications activity
with Alcatel and creating ATLINKS,
making the new company not only number one in the United States
but in the world as well.
Finally, the Group entered the electronic
book market by launching two modems in cooperation with GEMSTAR.
The ambition of Thomson multimedia is to offer products and solutions
so that, in this transition phase, everyone can have easy access
to services at his/her own rhythm.
