Enhancing intellectual property
Thomson multimedia owns today 30,000 patents regrouped in 5,800 families of inventions. The patent portfolio is permanently updated with 350 to 400 first patent filings per year, filed in ten countries on average.

Thomson multimedia's inventions include strong patent position for traditional consumer electronics products (TV, display monitors, CD, cathode ray tubes, VCRs and camcorders), but also a wide coverage of digital technologies: high definition television, digital television, digital decoders, DVD, digital audio (mp3), iTV, Managed Playback.

Based on these patent assets, Thomson has developed over the years a long-standing and trustworthy reputation as a licensing organization in the consumer electronics field. Thomson licensing business follows a double focus: intellectual property on products that reach mass markets and worldwide licensees (Asia, Europe, USA).
